“At age five, I began recording worship albums with my church choir, performing in musicals, plays, and Christmas programs. Since then, God has given me the gift of both singing and writing music. I can still remember singing songs on my kitchen counter to my mom and she would always encourage me to never give up.
“I started playing piano at age seven where I placed in various piano recitals and competitions, and began performing for talent shows, school musical programs, dramas, skits, and church activities. Throughout school, I continued learning about music and found a love and passion for it. When I reached sixth grade, I decided to help co-host talent shows and got even more involved in music. I made show choir and the school honors choir the following year and loved it! I also continued singing in choirs such as: All State Choir, Women’s Ensemble, and Mixed Choirs until I graduated high school. After high school I started a new chapter of my life at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. I enrolled as a Music Major and my whole first semester was spent learning music theory and history, performing in recitals, for Women’s Choir, and other venues. I also taught myself how to play guitar and became more successful in re-writing and composing music I created from my past. I recently had the amazing experience to sing with the Twin Cities Experience worship team, which encouraged me to pursue God more than ever and trust that He will guide me through all life’s trials. Through TCX, I was able to make great friendships, hear awesome teachings from the speakers and learn more about who Christ is.
“Now, I am a junior Graphic Design Major at South Dakota State University (SDSU) and continue perusing music even more than before. Currently, I co-lead worship services for my church, sing for the Campus Crusade Worship Team and perform all across the state for events, conferences, church functions, outdoor festivals, school activities and SDSU games. I hold the title as Miss Brookings South Dakota and have competed for Miss South Dakota America three years in a row where I have won Most Dedicated and Most Talented Contestant. As Miss Brookings, I have worked with schools in South Dakota and the Boys and Girls Club of Brookings to help promote music and positive choices for young people. Last year I started the Boys and Girls Club Idol. This year I hope to continue music in schools and for organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club.
“I believe these experiences are just the beginning of God’s work in my life. I am proud to say that music influences me on a daily basis and I enjoy living life and worshiping Him! I know I have all the capabilities to lead people into worship and I thank God for allowing me the opportunity to reach many for Christ! I feel that sharing my gift of worshiping the Lord honors His Kingdom and His children. “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
